“When my father started Matwale Doodh Ghar in 1967 near Charminar, things were different. Back then, we were the only ones serving that pure, traditional lassi. I watched him put his heart into this shop, teaching my brother and me that if you are honest with your work, the people will always come.
When I took over in 1991, it was a big responsibility. We didn’t want to change a thing; we just wanted to keep his name and his standards alive. In all these years, the biggest lesson we’ve learned is to stay grounded.
The city has changed so much. New shops are opening every day with all sorts of ‘fusion’ menus and modern twists. But we stayed stuck to our roots. We kept our menu small—just our lassi and faluda because we believe in doing one thing, and doing it perfectly. You don’t need to chase every trend to be successful; you just need to stay true to who you are.
Our customers? They aren’t just ‘customers.’ They are our well-wishers, our friends. We’ve seen families grow up right in front of our eyes. It’s a special feeling—seeing kids today standing at the same counter where their grandfathers once stood, enjoying the exact same taste.
In the middle of the peak Hyderabad summer, a chilled glass of our lassi is more than just a drink. It’s a bit of relief, a bit of nostalgia, and a whole lot of Hyderabad’s soul. We’re just happy to keep that tradition flowing.”
