I wanted to become a teacher...

" I am a native of Mahboobnagar but settled in Hyderabad. I am a B.Ed and M.A.post graduate. I wanted to become a teacher...gain respect and earn a decent living. But my communication skills were not enough to help me secure a teaching job. Later, I got married. My husband family is big joint family and all of us have to chip in to make ends meet. My in-laws and family members have been in the ironing business for many years and I got pulled into it. I had my doubts about it and I was still reeling under the disappointment of losing out on teaching jobs. But to my surprise, I found that ironing is monetarily more fetching than teaching. On an average I earn upto Rs.600 a day, and what's more, I work near my home. My husband being a cab driver has erratic schedules, so cannot spend much time with kids. My 8 year and 6 year old kids need me more...and I am happy that I am there for them during their growth days. In a way, I have my teaching job and two very demanding students :) Any day, I would love to be a teacher...more because of the respect one gives to the profession. Not that people treat you bad when you are an ironing woman, but they don't suffix your name with 'Madam' as they do with teachers. Somehow, I always wanted that. May be my kids can get it someday...i.e. if I educate them right :) "
