A Man and khaki...

"My first experience of a job was in the banking sector. The job was satisfying, but I wanted to serve people, more closely. And I realised that police department was the place to be. It’s been five years and I’ve enjoyed every bit of it. Right from the training days, where my day would start as early as 4 am. We would begin with exercises and a few rounds of running. Later in the day, we also had indoor classes where we learnt the purpose of the department and how we could make the public feel safer. Evenings were mostly parade practices and sports. During this year-long training period, discipline and physical fitness, of course, were the important things I learnt. Though the schedule was hectic, it was worth it all when I wore the police uniform for the first time. I felt like there’s a purpose to life and a bigger responsibility I have towards my country. And you know, when you walk on the road wearing this ‘Khaki-coloured’ uniform, you have all the eyes on you filled with respect.
Lately, however, I feel like we’re misunderstood by many because of a few incidents. They consider us lazy and corrupt - but let me tell you that’s not true. These perceptions are usually made depending on a third person’s experience or cinema. Thankfully, in the last few years, Hyderabadis have started trusting and approaching us for help without any fear, which is a good sign. We work hard to do our job responsibly. More often than not, I don’t get to spend enough time with my wife and my two-year-old son. Sometimes, they complain but they know my responsibility and understand what this job means to me. It has been an honour to serve my people all these years— and I’ll continue to do so"
