“I’m from the Kothagudem region of Telangana, and I’ve been working in the Singareni coal mines for 32 years. I started out as a Badli filler, doing basic underground work like loading coal, and over time, I became a Mining Operator.
Mining is not easy. Our day starts early, and once we go underground, it’s hours of drilling, lifting, and moving coal in hot and dusty conditions. It’s tiring, but we’ve gotten used to it. This work may be tough, but it gives us a sense of purpose.
What keeps us going is the support we have for each other. There’s always someone to help if anything goes wrong. That team spirit is strong, especially underground.
Singareni has also been taking steps to care for the environment. We’ve been part of tree plantations and clean-up drives around the mining areas. These small efforts matter.
Right now, I’m in Hyderabad, taking part in the Senior Men’s Tennis Tournament, representing Singareni. Playing sports gives us a break from our daily routine and keeps us active.
This Labour Day, I want to recognise every worker who puts in honest effort, no matter the job. We all deserve dignity and respect for what we do.”
