“Every year during Ganesh Chaturthi, we at Sri Mallikarjuna Nagar Youth Welfare Association try to do something a little different. In 2023, we celebrated India’s space achievements with a Chandrayaan-themed Ganesh idol. This year, 2025, we wanted to honour our soldiers, so we chose an Operation Sindoor theme.
The idol is made of clay by local artisans and shows Ganesha as an Air Force officer. Beside him are models of the BrahMos missile and the S-400 system — small reminders of the strength and courage of our armed forces. We wanted people to feel connected to both devotion and respect for those who protect us.

Inside the pandal, we have exhibits covering India’s defence history — from the wars of 1947, 1965, and 1971, to Kargil, Uri, Pulwama, and Operation Sindoor in 2025. There’s also a 20-minute AI-based film that plays during Navratri, letting visitors see these events come alive.

The locals also pitched in, helping with the Sudarshan vehicle that goes with the idol. Since we unveiled it, people from across the city have been coming to see it.

For us, these themed Ganesh idols are just part of the festival. They’re a way to celebrate, share a story, and honour what makes our city and country proud — whether it’s our space missions or the people who protect us.”
