“Some habits don’t change with time. For me, one of them is coming to the Hyderabad Book Fair every year, a place I’ve been returning to since it began at the City Central Library in Ashok Nagar. Over the years, it moved to NTR Stadium, and I’ve also seen similar fairs in places like Vijayawada. What I like seeing now is how more people turn up, even on weekdays. It feels like readers are slowly finding their way back to books.

I worked in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in the accounts department, for 37 years. I joined in 1981 and retired a few years ago. During my service, I was involved in setting up Government of India stalls at book fairs and exhibitions across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. One publication many people looked for was the India Year Reference Manual, especially students preparing for civil services and other competitive exams. Seeing that interest was always satisfying.
Even at 70, I keep myself active. I don’t own a bike, so I depend on public transport and walking. It keeps me healthy and helps me stay connected to the city.

I’ve travelled across India, but Hyderabad stands apart for its culture, diversity, and the way it makes people feel welcome. It’s a city where people come to build their lives.”
