“My name is Dr. Atchuta Abhinav, and I’m a periodontist. When I entered medical education back in 2004, I had imagined a very different roadmap for my career. Like many students, my early focus was pointed towards cardiology. But life has a way of guiding you toward the exact work you were meant to do.
During my BDS and MDS at Kamineni, I discovered a growing appreciation for periodontics and implantology. It is a field requiring immense focus, working carefully with the supporting structures of the oral cavity. Early on, I was still finding my footing. But with the guidance of mentors like Dr. Satyanarayana and Dr. Rajuvagu, I learned that true professional skill is built through consistency, curiosity, and the patience to master a craft day by day.
Today, my schedule is a fulfilling mix of running clinics across Hyderabad, consulting, performing specialized surgeries, writing books, and publishing research papers. Yet, teaching remains one of my favorite responsibilities. Standing in front of aspiring dentists, sharing what I have learned, and watching concepts click for them gives me immense purpose.
Balancing a demanding surgical practice and academics has its challenges, but I am fortunate to have a supportive family. Sharing the same profession with my wife means our daily conversations and lives are naturally anchored around our work in periodontics.
Looking back, career paths are rarely straight lines. True fulfillment does not come from sticking rigidly to an initial plan. It comes from embracing the path you take, putting in the work, and finding lasting purpose in the contribution you make every single day.”
