“I found interest in things that others wouldn’t care about. Back in school, I would use chalk pieces to carve and create some shapes. That’s how miniature art started. Everybody around me appreciated, especially my school. They would call me on to the stage and speak about my creativity. At home, they asked me why I was spending my pocket money on chalk pieces. It was funny for them. But I was a kid, and they let me be. I remember watching art show MAD on Pogo. The host Hanun Robert was my biggest inspiration! I would watch the show and try all kinds of art and craft.
It was during my engineering course that I started to read about miniature carvings. I found pencil lead carving and began to try it. It took me a while before I realised that I need to promote my work too! I started a social media page and kept posting images. Once I started to take it seriously, my parents became slightly worried about my career. But when they saw my achievements, they understood that it was working well for me. I posted a mother and child carving on pencil and it went viral on Facebook. That’s when people started to look at my work and it gained me attention. I went on to carve Lord Shiva and Buddha faces on a single tip with 0.3 width and 0.6mm of height lead. I gave a Tedx talk too!
Later, when I went to Jagriti Yatra, I met President Ram Nath Kovind. He was impressed by my work and called me backstage and also took a photograph with me. I was nervous but what a wonderful moment it was! Media organisations started to write about me. It felt great. What started off as a small past time brought me so much love and attention.”
