“I grew up in an atmosphere where the birth of a boy is celebrated and the birth of a girl is looked down upon. Back then, girls in our village didn’t have the choice to make their own decisions. They were either married off young, or sent to the nearest schools or colleges to study just for the sake of it. Despite the regressive thinking of the society, my parents gave me complete freedom to choose my career. In fact, I am the first generation of my family to be sent to University beyond Intermediate. That motivated me to work harder in life. I used to do part time jobs while studying. I started thinking of an alternative career at a very early age as I always wanted to be independent in life. That’s how my entreprenueral journey began. I wanted to move out of my village to start something on my own. It was tough to convince my family as they were worried about me living alone. Although I understand where their concerns came from, I had to move. I started investing to build a new start up business after graduation and even at that stage, people told me that a woman cannot run a business successfully and a her only motto should only be marriage.
Even though I never replied to them directly, I wanted my success to speak to them.
It was quite challenging initially as I had no mentors who could guide me on the right path. I was initially into supply chain and online grocery delivery businesses which were quite new during those days. Even though I was successful in running my businesses, my real passion was into art. In my leasure, I used to play with my sisters kids and I remember how small their feet and hands were. I always wanted to preserve those little moments and that’s when I got an idea to permanently freeze those memories through art. Coincidentally, I came across a video where I saw the freezing of impressions of the little ones. I started researching more about life casting and figured out the ways to capture these memories permanently. It was pretty new in India and I thought, why couldn’t I start a business that brings art closer to reality. That led to the foundation of my 3D impressions and life casting business in Hyderabad. It all began with the desire to capture the parents’ memories of their children. I also got the opportunity to life cast the kids of celebrities like Actor Nani, comedian Dhanraj and others. Today, I have extended my business in over 6 cities in India and more than 3 countries across the world. As for the people back home, their questions have gone from ‘how girls can succeed in business? to ‘how can our sons become like you.’ And I certainly feel there’s nothing that can stop women from doing so!”
