“Bathukamma festival is around the corner and we hope that people purchase flowers. We bring these from forests and they are called the wild flowers. They include thangadi, gummadi, adavi chamanthi and others.

Earlier, Bathukamma was a divine practice. It represented the culture and identity of the people of Telangana and involved the worship of Maha Gauri. It involved the celebration of colours, flowers, traditional folk dances and songs.
But it has all become filmy now. Undeniably, sales have doubled after the Telangana state formation as many officials and locals buy flowers on a large scale. The festival has also gained great popularity in the recent past but many fail to understand the importance of the story behind it. Even the demand for these forest flowers is poor. People are using chamanti and other hybrid varieties for the flower arrangements, while actually, only wild flowers symbolise the true Bathukamma.”
