“Even three years ago, body and colour shaming were not dinner table conversations like it is today. So when I was younger, talking about being bullied was not easy. It will never be easy but I think there are more people willing to listen to you today. When my classmates called me half ticket because of how lean and short I was, I couldn’t say much because the idea of masculinity was very rigid. Initially, it made me really sad, but I learnt to laugh it off. It’s only now that I understand and know that body-shaming is not okay. Nobody can or should make fun of you for the way you look. It took me a few years to realise this and to believe in myself. Thanks to social media, the conversation about shaming is growing, but I don’t think we’re changing on a fast pace as a society. Although people don’t call you names openly, many of them still have an idea of beauty ingrained in their minds. Our cinema and music is only making it more difficult leaving it with almost no scope for any improvement. That needs to change. We still have a long way to go.”
