“One afternoon, I was taking a nap at my cousin’s house in Vijayawada when I suddenly felt a jerk on the other side of the bed! I woke up with a start. A man jumped out of fear and apologized saying he didn’t know I was there! That was when I first met him.
We are both introverts. Our jump-scare incident happened in 2003 and after that we came across each other more times than I can count. He was my cousin’s best friend, because of which he was always around during family gatherings, functions and outings. Despite that, we never spoke. Many chances were thrown at us where he and I were alone, on the brink of a conversation, only to be interrupted by my cousin! Eventually, we started seeing different people and time passed. This happened twice. The second time, we were both quite involved with our partners. During that time, I received a friend request from him and we got talking. We exchanged phone numbers as well. It was quite awkward initially but soon, we became good friends. We met about twice a year but that was about it. In 2012, he broke up with his then partner because it was not working out between them and so did I in 2013.
It was in my cousin’s theatre play, when my phone number was shared to coordinate for directions, that we got in touch again. While I was sitting, I heard a whisper in my ear, “There is no seat.” I felt my cheeks fire up and the butterflies in my stomach go crazy! I pointed him to the seat ahead. After the recital, I rushed out of there because I was flustered. He sent me a text message saying, “It’s sad we didn’t get to spend time together.” We then decided to meet on his birthday. Unfortunately, he fell sick that day. So a day after my birthday, at around 2 a.m he came over and took me out for coffee because that is what he had promised when we started talking initially. 2 a.m. till 1 p.m. the next day, time just flew by! As we were leaving, he took my hand, kissed it and said, “If you like someone, you should kiss them on their cheek”. So, I did.
It has been a beautiful ride since and we tied the knot in 2017! We are madly in love and it is the best feeling in the world.”
