“I personally believe that emotions of any sort are ultimately expressed over food at a dining table. Food is what connects individuals together, sparks a conversation and continues to help build that bond. If you think about it, since childhood we are always asked to share our food with each other.
My dad is a hotelier, so since I was kid, food and restaurants have been a huge part of my life. I have always been a picky kid when it came to food. Picky in the sense, I’d tell my mum what I was craving and inquire about everything that was usually cooked at home. It was a family tradition at home that on every weekend, we’d either go to Paradise or Chutneys for a meal. When I was in school, the simple fact that each person would carry a different dish for lunch, fascinated me. We would share our lunch boxes with each other, everyday. It was only in college when I met like-minded people, who loved experimenting with food as much as I did. We went around the city exploring the hidden joints. I have been to almost every food joint in Hyderabad!
Soon after college, when I settled well with my job and career, I decided to start documenting my food endeavours. Orkut and Facebook were new back then, so we formed communities on it and I started to review food joints from across the city. I still remember this one time when I was dining at an italian restaurant which I was very frequent to because it was accessible, I saw an elderly couple who must be in their 70’s, celebrating their marriage anniversary. While I was eating, that gentleman walked up to me, and said, “We went through all your recommendations together and decided to celebrate our anniversary here”. That was my little moment of fame, if i might call it that. That compliment made my day. I happened to be one of the first people to start the food blogging scene in the city. My community started building and I started getting collaborations with hotels and travel agencies. It was then that I realised that my food journey has been limited to mostly hyderabad. That’s when travel came into the picture. I started travelling around India and to other countries as well, where I would learn about their food, culture and how food defines the behaviours and cultures of each place. I eventually decided to blog my travels along with food and soon enough I started blogging about lifestyle as well. That led me to be one of the first who started blogging about men’s lifestyle, specifically business travel. Till date, I’ve travelled to 30 countries and 72 cities across the globe.
Like I said, emotions are mostly expressed over food or at airports. That makes me happy. I believe that travel and food go hand in hand. If you understand the culture of a place, you understand it’s food. It’s as simple as how the Hyderabadi biryani is so different from the biryani you’d probably get in Delhi. It’s the authenticity that brings flavour to the food and all I’m doing is helping people to taste the authenticity of the world.”
