“The most important achievement for me in life is that I’ve been gifted with the talent of making friends. My shop is right next to the bus stand and there are three temples nearby. Most of the devotees who come to visit these temples come to me to buy flowers. For the last 37 years, I’ve made innumerable friends and acquaintances. I am humbled when people come to me and recognize me. I enquire about how they are doing and they in turn ask me about my well being. My approach towards my business is more than just the relationship between a buyer and a seller.
I’ve set up this stall here for quite some time now. Before that, I was in Bandlagudem for two years. Hailing from Kondapuram village in Rangareddy District, I moved to the city in 1982, along with my husband and worked for one year in a company in Kushaiguda. Then I started this business on my own. Though I sell all types of flowers, the main attraction here is the jasmine garland. The reason I started this business was to be financially independent and support my family. I wanted to be my own master. That satisfaction is something completely different.
Ever since the Covid-19 outbreak, there aren’t many customers who visit my stall. In fact, I had to shut my stall for more than a month because of the lockdown but that didn’t deter me from moving forward in life. My son is an auto driver and daughter has her own business. They too suffered from losses but will thinking about it brings us anything? No. We will have to adapt to change and move forward. Whether I earn less or more, as long as my family and I are happy and earn a living, that is enough. After all, life is not a bed of roses all the time.”
