“Some of my best memories of my childhood were of going to Walden every summer. My birthday is in May; most kids would be upset about not being able to celebrate it in school, but not me! All I looked forward to was going to Walden to restock our bookshelf. I’m not exaggerating when I say that even as a child, I read an entire book a day! I still remember purchasing my first Secret 7 novel. I mean Enid Blyton, Hardy Boyz, Secret 7- all of the characters in these books were such a huge part of my life. As I grew older, I shifted to Agatha Christie, Sydney Sheldon and so on; it’s so beautiful, isn’t it? The progression of literature with your own journey.
Coming from a less developed side of town to a place like Walden in Begumpet was an entire journey by itself. Looking at all the new buildings, the cars, and finally, the fancy atmosphere of Walden itself! It was the highlight of my summers. I’d buy all of this cool stationary only to have it stolen in school later- but that didn’t stop me! It’s been quite a while since I visited Walden last, but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t bother me when I heard the store was shutting down. I genuinely do give them complete credit for inspiring me to choose the path of being a journalist. Without all of those years of browsing the bookstore, I would never have dropped out of engineering. Instead, I pushed myself to follow my dream- something that I’d learnt somewhere in the pages of all of those wonderful books!”
