“I grew up in a village called Mankhal in Rangareddy district. We were extremely poor so my parents got me married early when I was just 14. My husband used to sell tender coconuts for a living while I would take care of household chores. Life moved forward, and over time we had two sons. Unfortunately, things went south when my husband suffered from a major respiratory illness. We were completely helpless, and I felt so guilty for not being able to provide for our family. I wanted him to know that he wasn’t alone in this fight.
That’s when I decided to step up to share our family’s responsibilities. I would get up at 6 am, clean the house, cook for everyone, and start selling fruits and vegetables until 9 pm. I guess that’s what comes with taking care of your family – you feel strong and determined when it’s their happiness and health on the line!
Of course, there will be bad days sometimes, so I look for small pockets of happiness around me everyday. Things have been difficult for the last nine months but I strongly believe there are better days to come!”
