“I remember drawing Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck a lot as a child, along with the typical mountains and sailboats that we’re all taught to do in school. As I got older and took up science in college, I spent most of my time engrossed in my record books drawing plants and anatomical structures. I think that’s where my passion for drawing really took shape.

My father is an artist and a poet, and always inspired me to be passionate about the beauty in art. He would motivate me and urge me to improve upon myself and my art. Looking at kitchen waste to any normal person would be redundant, but to me, it was an opportunity. I began making art out of eggshells and empty liquor bottles, which evolved into wood art, canvas work, zentangle art, and several others. Over time, I realized the only way to live a meaningful life was to create a career out of my passion. You know what they say, choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.

I created a website where I began to upload my work, and to my absolute glee, it began picking up quite a bit of traction. People seemed keen on following my art and taking this journey with me. I began getting orders for diyas to be painted, to put up stalls at exhibitions, to teach artwork, and even to give guest lectures at schools! In 2014, I opened my own studio- Shruthi Sripada Creations.

I do aspire to be able to own a large art studio one day to properly display all my work and create a bigger name for myself as an artist, but right now, I am very proud of where I’ve come, and so is my family. I’m very fortunate to have a circle around me that has always been incredibly supportive. Sometimes, I sit for hours on end finishing and perfecting pieces because I don’t like things left incomplete, and I do believe I am a perfectionist when it comes to my work. Even when it comes to travel, I choose destinations based on what artwork calls out to me; it is extremely inspirational to see other people’s approaches to art, because I truly believe that art is simply our perception of things.

It is extremely important to ensure that you are self sufficient and self inspired because the mental satisfaction of being able to say you are doing what you love, and doing it well, is incomparable.”
