“Diwali is around the corner and we are just hoping for better festive sales this year. It’s been more than 40 years ever since I started doing the pottery work. I learnt the skill from my mother. Women in our households have to prepare the clay mixture and also decorate the pots during the final making process before it goes out.
We make all kinds of pots and diyas with different colours and shapes as per the customer’s requirements. I am decorating these pots as the customers perform the Lakshmi puja on Diwali day in these colourful pots.
Things have been difficult ever since the Covid struck last year as we ended up spending all our savings last year to survive. However, I have no regrets.
With whatever little I earned so far, I have successfully brought up my four children (three daughters and a son). Now it’s time for them to take over our community profession and also the family responsibilities. I will continue working for a year or two and then take a break to explore other things in life.”
