“Who would have thought that since I moved to Hyderabad in 2002, he was written in the stars for me? I like to believe that there was something special between us since we were classmates in the 2nd standard. I vaguely remember the 8 years old us, being bench partners and fighting with each other for who would be the teacher’s favourite. But after changing schools in the 5th standard, we lost touch. 7 years later, destiny certainly knew how to play its part and we ended up being classmates in BBA. It was the first year of college, and to our surprise, we recognized each other being childhood friends. I remember coming home from college and sending him a snapshot of our class photo from second grade and that’s where we hit it off again. In no time, we became the best of friends. From texting each other all day to becoming dance partners we started figuring each other out. We didn’t realize how 3 years of college just passed by and we were nearing the end of our graduation. That’s when we understood we were falling for each other and couldn’t spend a day without seeing each other and managed to spark the chemistry. If you asked me back then, I wouldn’t have thought even in the slightest possibility that we’d end up like this, but now when I look back at it, I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
We certainly don’t live a life full of sunshine and rainbows, but we make sure to hold on together through the storms that hit us on the way. Between my insecurities and his temper, we always feared this wouldn’t work out. He gave up his dream of living abroad for me and has been rock-solid whenever I got anxious about any situation. I come from a Gujarati family and he’s a Marwadi, therefore confessing our love to our parents was also a scary feeling but he always assured me that he’d fight it all for us. To our surprise, both our parents have been the most supportive and stood by us through it all. We got engaged a couple of weeks ago in a small ceremony with our close ones and when I think about it, It still feels so unreal.
From the little kids to the college sweethearts, from starting off as best friends to getting engaged to the love of my life, from all the fights to the endless laugthers we’ve shared through the years, there couldn’t have been a happier moment for me.
They say, what’s meant to be always finds its way, and that has proved to be very true in our lives. As we move on to the next chapter of our life, I feel gratitude every time I look at him and I wouldn’t give up the life that we’ve built for ourselves for anything in the world.”
