“I will become a doctor when I grow up”. That was me as a child, saying it out loud with such conviction. If you ask me if I knew what conviction meant back then, Nah, I did not!
But the younger me knew what she needed and she navigated through thick and thin to make it happen.
Becoming a doctor involves reading through endless books for endless hours, is that all?! It is a committed decision to be a student for life, be an absentee family member on most family occasions, and be that almost asocial friend amongst all the school buddies. These are not big sacrifices but are small inconveniences. I was ready and am ready each day to face such inconveniences with the relentless support of my family.
After completing my MBBS, I happened to work under a dermatologist. It was just a chance decision and it piqued my interest in dermatology. I pursued the interest and completed my post-graduation in DVL. I was lucky enough to update my knowledge through global programmes and work under eminent professors in the field of dermatology. That was a very enhancing experience.
I went on to pursue a career in teaching and worked as an assistant professor before moving on to work as a consultant in the corporate world.
Dr Sindhuri Reddy, a dermatologist is a culmination of all those experiences. Dermatology is viewed by many as a branch that deals with making you and your skin beautiful. That is the tip of an iceberg. Many diseases and conditions affecting the skin are not a grave danger to life but they are very morbid and take a toll on the affected person’s quality of life. It requires a great deal of understanding and patience to deliver the best care to your patients. Empathy and effective treatment go hand in hand.
In 2020, I started the Eternoderm skin, hair and laser clinic with the same conviction and this project is a reflection of the efforts, the zeal, the empathy and the ethics that I stand for.”
