“I keep listening to my friends saying doctors have job security. Some even say doctors are considered second only to god and they live worthy and happiest life. However, many of them don’t realize that medical profession requires dedication, commitment and hard work.
In my case, ever since my childhood, it was my mom (a science graduate) who motivated me to become a doctor by setting my dad as an example who is a doctor (professor of medicine and principal of medical college). He was into teaching profession and clinical practice as well.
I used to see the medical student community showing their gratitude and the same with the patients. I kept asking him what was the mantra behind his successful clinical practice and his answer was patience, compassion and empathy.
Right from my childhood, being an above average student, no one expected me to become doctor except my parents. As I hail from a small town, the pre university (intermediate) education was not sufficient to score a good rank in medical profession. It was difficult to leave my parents and join a residential college, but I made my mind to fulfil my parents dream.
There is a myth that MBBS is not easy and one needs to study for year. In fact MBBS life was the most cherished moment. I think one has to be focused about what they want by ignoring failures and success, of course we need to be diligent and compassionate to become successful in medical profession. There are positives and negative sides of every profession, handling it with logic and common sense makes life easy!”
