“When did I first start stitching? Well, it’s a funny story indeed. My father used to travel to neighbouring villages every month on work and I dared to take up customers orders without his knowledge. I was just around 11 years old back then. I had managed to stitch the clothes perfectly. That was the most satisfying moment in my life. As a beginner, the first thing you learn in this job is to stitch the shirt’s buttonhole. I used to practice stitching for hours in the late night and it had to lead me to run my tailoring business for more than 45 years.
Having spent over four decades in this profession, I have seen many trends come and go. For instance, bell bottoms and sweaters were the trend back then but people nowadays want me to stitch slim-fit trousers and patterned shirts. Now that I am alone, I only stitch shirts, trousers and turn away others. We have practiced this profession for many generations but my son isn’t willing to continue this. He’s currently working in a company in the city and I am okay with his choice. The only thing I wish from him is to do the things that could be helpful for people. Let’s see what God has in store for us in the future.”
