“During the lockdown, I got inspired by a TED talk by Josh Kaufman and tried bringing some innovation in teaching a new skill. I chose guitar as a pilot project and started teaching right at my desk with my first student who is also my friend from college. Now TheGuitarProject.in has more than 800 learners across 13+ countries teaching Guitar, Ukulele, Piano, Violin, and percussions from some tutors who understood the teaching methodology that I was trying to bring in.
When I bought my first guitar back in 2011, I made up my mind that I am going to rock the stage stealing millions of hearts. I immediately joined the classes, where I was taught only one exercise for more than 2 months. I was not moving forward and there was no progress in the syllabus as well. Eventually, I lost the zeal and it didn’t take much time for the guitar to become a showcase at my home. Reasons are multitude, it might be the way some institutes deliberately teach at a slow pace to get a long-term business, it might be the traditional teaching methods that usually need years of your time.
I have designed a unique model of learning guitar which is focused on playing songs and performing and not on completing the traditional syllabus. The result: every student who attended my classes regularly started playing their first song in the first 3 hours!
As I said, it is not limited to guitar. I strongly believe that this can be generalized to many other skills. We started with other musical instruments and saw some great results.
Going forward, I have a vision of implementing this result-oriented teaching to other skills outside music.”
