“I have been a solo traveler throughout my life. Born and brought up in a Town called Reckong Peo in Himachal Pradesh, I must say I am fortunate enough to be able to meet people from all walks of life across India and a few countries abroad. Travel for me is the ultimate personal development tool. When you travel solo, you travel on your terms. You get to do what you want when you want. And for me, the peace and vibe of the surroundings are the two main things that make me stick to solo travel.
Talking about Hyderabad, I have roamed across the city and also visited the Warangal district in Telangana. I have had the opportunity to taste local cuisines like the Dum ki Biriyani and several local dishes like Sheer Kurma, Sarva Pindi, and many more dishes. But I liked the traditional Irani chai, bun maska, and Osmania biscuits the most.
To be honest, most questions I get are about my survival and how I can afford to travel. People assume that someone funds for me to travel the world – which isn’t the case. I do various jobs including farming, teaching, construction, cooking, hospitality support, etc to earn and get myself going. I limit my expenses by staying in tents and huts.
During my travels, I come across a lot of people from varied cultures and traditions, and I learn to adapt to the situations and mingle with them without any issues! Of course, there were instances where I faced difficulties and survival gets difficult but experiences teach you to survive and that’s how you keep learning.
I am 55 years old now and I wish to travel until my body supports me. It’s a great way to break out of your shell and see the world at your pace!”
