“When I began my career in theatre, my family wasn’t very accepting. They wanted me to be a Chartered Accountant. But I loved acting and theatre. I borrowed money from friends and paid for workshops in Hyderabad. After one of the rather long courses, my family wanted me back home in West Godavari. They asked me to quit theatre. But I was very determined and focused. I felt like they didn’t trust me with my skills and abilities. It was around that time that I seriously started exploring theatre. My journey started in 2018 with Samahaara Theatre Group, Hyderabad. Ever since I worked with a few reputed theatre groups like Nishumbitha, Nibha Theatre Ensemble, etc. Over the years theatre gave me the confidence that I need. It gave me the opportunity to explore my inhibitions and insecurities. We put our heart and soul into the rehearsal process for 2 months for every production and now theatre almost became my second home.
When my parents saw my performance later, they were much more accepting. By then, they had understood my love for theatre and all the hard work I put in. Earlier when I had first joined Samahara Theatre Group, things at home were different. They are concerned about my career and wanted me to go for the job as it’s not risky, unlike Theatre. They weren’t very supportive of my passion for acting. However, with time, they understood me and let me pursue my career goals.
I have been doing theatre for the last 5 years now and to date, I have done more than 90+ shows. I acted in 15 play productions in Telugu, English, and Hindi languages. My major productions were Chalam’s Maidanam, Paakuduraallu by Dr. Ravuri Bharadwaja garu, etc.
Doing theatre also gave me visibility and opportunity to work in the Telugu film industry. I started acting in movies too. Now I am able to work with major production houses in the industry balancing both theatre and films. I just can’t quit theatre ever as I consider it a great practice.
If I cared about what others said, I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing today. I know what I want and I love what I do. So, I’m going to continue working towards my dream career in acting.”
