“Raksha Bandhan is a very important festival to me. I was born in a Muslim family. My parents always encouraged a sense of equality and oneness among everybody.
Many girls from my neighborhood tie me rakhis. I love being the older brother they always wanted. My father started this ritual about 25 years back and soon, I caught up too! Growing up, I always wondered why humans create differences among one another despite belonging to the same species. My upbringing took place in an atmosphere free of discrimination based on caste, creed or religion. We celebrate all festivals together, with no inhibitions. Apart from my two sisters, many young Hindu and Muslim girls tie me this holy thread every year. Our families too, have succeeded in creating extremely strong bonds, equivalent to that of family! Its a festival of unity; of praying for the joy and well being of one another, promising to protect one another and bearing gifts of love for one another. Different religious beliefs cannot undo that feeling!”
