“Born and brought up in Maharashtra, I was quite worried when I moved to Hyderabad after my wedding. My husband and I were initially living in a joint family. As the daughter-in-law, I had a few responsibilities to fulfill, but I wanted to pursue my passion for art and craft. Despite having a busy schedule at home, I used to find time in the noon to work on my ideas. I had a good start in 2010 when I launched my
mehendi book and slowly took off from there to produce better products.

Seven years later, I must confess, I’ve come a long way. It might sound cliche, but the credit goes to my husband and in-laws for their support. Many people stereotype Marwari women saying we need to wear a veil as a matter of respect and that we have strict families who burden us with work (laughs). For everyone saying that, look at me! I think, if you are persistent to do something you love, you will do it. And
ghungat? How can a piece of cloth show more respect than my attitude and
behaviour towards people and things?

With the support of my family and my love for this art, I continue to dedicate time without letting it affect my family and their needs. I have put stalls in our ladies club exhibition and a few other fests, and there have been times when I would suddenly need some material. One call to my husband and I would have it all. Frankly, I couldn’t have asked for anything better in life. We love each others’ company so much that we’ve been going on trips by ourselves in the last few years. Together, we’re traveling the world.”
