“I’ve been selling coconuts on these vibrant Hyderabad streets for a good 20 years now. Every day is a fresh start for me. Mornings start with the regular responsibilities of a mother. Afterward, around 11 AM, I head over to our coconut stall. Come evening, I return home to take care of the kids while my husband heads off to his part-time job.
Our earnings vary with the seasons. Summer is brisk with coconut sales, while monsoons and winters bring quieter days. Those coconuts we sell? They come all the way from the lush East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. For every coconut, we make a modest ₹3 to ₹5 profit.
This small business is like a ride at a funfair. Some days, it’s all cheers and happiness, but on slow days, it’s a bit of a financial rollercoaster. What keeps us going? It’s our family’s well-being. That’s the guiding star in our journey.
We didn’t have the privilege of education, neither my husband nor I. However, our children are all grown up now, and we’re proud to see them pursue their own paths. Our elder son is a Zomato delivery agent, working hard to make his way. Our younger son is focusing on his higher education.
My only hope is that they get good jobs and enjoy a life full of opportunities, away from the challenges I’ve faced.
In our daily routine, love and hope are the motivation factors. They keep our hearts warm and dreams alive, for a brighter, more fulfilling future.”
