“The Bonalu festival in Hyderabad is a time of unity and celebration, where the entire community comes together to honor the Mother Goddess with prayers and offerings. One of the most cherished traditions during this festival is the art of Thottela decoration.

As local decorators in Charminar, we’re proud to contribute to this joyous celebration that’s been a part of our community for over 200 years. My family helps me in making the Thottela decorations – bamboo material with colorful papers and flowers. We tie them to Neem trees or place them near temple deities, as part of the tradition, adding to the festive ambiance. 

What makes our work special is our family tradition, passed down through generations. Each year, we prepare these Thottelas for the festival, preserving our ancestral practices and communal spirit.
