“Music has played a huge part in my life ever since I was a kid. I grew up listening to various genres – from Kannada devotional songs to Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi tracks. I loved the music of AR Rahman and Ilayaraja Sir. Later, I got into Western music, listening to artists like Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, and Daft Punk. As a Kannadiga, I was exposed to devotional songs (Devarnamalu) and trained in Carnatic music and mandolin playing, which helped me understand the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Da Ne Sa culture. Born and raised in Australia, I’ve had a unique blend of Eastern and Western influences.
I started playing the mandolin by chance. Initially, I was unsure, but after my first lesson, I enjoyed it. As an instrumentalist, I find it easy to express myself through the mandolin – it’s like an extension of my singing. I like trying out different styles, from Carnatic to Western.
Participating in Telugu Indian Idol season 3 was incredible. Despite not being from a Telugu background, I learned about Telugu culture, music, and lyrics after moving to Hyderabad. The show improved my Telugu language skills, and I can now write songs in Telugu. The judges and contestants were supportive, and I gained valuable knowledge and insights. Everyone was talented, and I learned so much within a month. This motivation will take me far, and it’s had a significant impact on my musical journey.
My parents have always supported me, and inspirations from the legendary music artists like AR Rahman, Mandolin Srinivas, Gulzar, and Sirivennela Seetharama Shastri motivate me. With consistent support and motivation, I intend to make a unique name in the music industry by combining my love for mandolin playing and singing.
Passion and discipline are the two aspects that drives me forward, and I believe in maintaining a work-life balance, making time for music, friends, family, and hobbies like Badminton and Cycling. As long as I enjoy both aspects, I don’t need anything more in life. I’m extremely grateful for the musical influences and experiences learning from legends that have shaped my musical journey.”
