“It’s the contrast, the shadows, the lights and the darks that bring out art in it’s truest form. My art to me, if I were to define it in one word, it would be ‘expressive’.
I have always been fascinated by art. It’s something that I’ve been doing for as long as I can remember. Some of my best memories I have with drawing is my dinosaur phase. Yes, I had one. I was someone who would draw anything and everything that caught my eye. So, when Jurassic Park would play on the television, I would always end up drawing a dinosaur. Years went by and art remained my stress buster. It was only in 2013, when a friend of mine sent me a poster of Comic Con in Hyderabad where the poster said that they are looking for artists to showcase their talents. I was excited, nervous and doubtful. But, I went for it. It was my first time, putting my artwork out there for others to see. It was then that I realised how I didn’t recognize my own skill, how I never saw how capable I truly was. In 2014 I started monetizing my art a little before college took over. I was confused because I have a degree in mechanical engineering which has nothing to do with my art. I decided to take some time off and explore my passion. Years went by and art is where I find comfort. So here I am. I was fascinated with charcoal drawings when I came across Barry Jazz Finnegan, who is a Dublin based charcoal artist. When I saw him creating cinematic masterpieces with just a couple of pieces of charcoal, I was hooked. It was nothing less than mesmerizing.
I’ve been working with charcoal for a while now. I love playing around with the contrast. Dare I say, it is almost a form of minimalism.
Art to me is viewing the world in a different lens. It is noticing the things that can easily miss a person’s eye. Because, when you translate what you see onto a piece of paper, you capture your perception. It is self expression and my way of interacting and communicating with this world.”
