“Three years ago, I just knew I had to move out of my parents’ house. It took me a great amount of convincing and pleading to explain to them why it was important for me to move out, become independent, and build a career for myself. They found it absurd for me to be living away from them, all by myself, while still living in the same city. Moving out of the comfort and luxury which my parents provided me, taught me to hustle harder and remain grounded. They had bigger plans for me, like any other parents. A ‘serious’ job, further studies, settling abroad. After I moved out, I took up a job in the sales and marketing department of a start-up, but my passion continued to be music.
I was in 11th grade when I first saw a guitar and heard what it sounded like. In that instant, I felt a connection. I knew that I needed a guitar of my own and started pleading with my dad to buy me one. A couple of years later, the night before an exam, he finally did! Needless to say, I failed the exam. But I had found my passion. I loved strumming on it for hours together, slowly learning the art by myself. Oh, the adrenaline rush was addictive! Soon it translated into a love for being on stage, performing and exhibiting art that came naturally to me.
Coming from a family with absolutely no history of music, it was difficult for me to convince my parents that I took music seriously and can make a career out of it. Once they agreed, their support is what made it all possible. From having a small band to collaborating with other musicians and now trying to learn vocals and go solo, music has been my constant and has opened many doors of opportunities, which I never wish to shut.”
