Once a neglected stretch of land with only the name of a pond, Bathukamma Kunta in Amberpet has been transformed into a thriving 4.7-acre water body. This restoration was carried out by the Hyderabad Disaster Response & Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) and supported by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB).

The lake, originally spanning 14 acres, had shrunk to just 5.15 acres due to encroachments and debris. HYDRAA initiated a comprehensive restoration project, which included clearing debris, excavating the lake bed, and improving water flow. The revitalized lake now boasts a storage capacity of 23.8 million liters and features enhanced infrastructure such as inlets, waste weirs, and drainage channels.
The restored Bathukamma Kunta is set to be dedicated to the public on Sunday, September 28, 2025, by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. This initiative not only revives a historic water body but also sets a precedent for urban water body rejuvenation in Hyderabad.
