“I grew up around Tank Bund, watching my father work as a lifeguard. Most people know him as Tank Bund Shiva. For more than two decades, he has been a familiar presence at Hussain Sagar, known for his steady service and commitment. Five years ago, I started working here as a lifeguard too. Many people recognise me as his son, and I carry that identity with pride.
Living close to the lake changes how you look at life and responsibility. I balance my studies with my shifts here, and while it takes effort, this path always felt natural to me. My father taught me how to swim early on, but more importantly, he taught me the value of discipline, alertness, and staying calm in situations that change quickly.
No two days at the lake are the same. People come here for walks, conversations, sightseeing or simply to spend some quiet time by the water. As a lifeguard, my role is to observe carefully, stay prepared, and step in whenever needed. Being present and attentive is a big part of the job. This work has shown me how important it is to look out for others and be aware of what’s happening around you. Small actions, done at the right time, can make a real difference.
I continue working here because I believe this kind of service matters. It’s not about recognition or rewards. It’s about responsibility. My father always believed that money comes and goes, but honesty and the purpose to serve others are what give life its real meaning. That’s the belief I try to live by every day.”
