“I come from a family of freedom fighters who took part in the freedom struggle. The environment in which I was brought up, did leave a great impact on the way I use my art form now. As a child, I was always inclined towards poetry and newspaper reading. Films or the industry for that matter never interested me. I believe there are different ways through which one can express their opinions and I chose that path to be Music. I wanted to express my anguish through my art form, It may be about the recent farmers’ protest or The Nirbhaya rape attack. In 2016, I wrote a song called “Manam” based on the rape incident, which is a spoken word form, a sub-genre of rap
After failing tenth grade, the journey from there on till my first year of degree made me realize I was a young teenager who was very adamant. And later on, during my second year, I chose to quit college as I wanted to take up DJing firmly. The concept of DJing was not really known back in 2004-2005. It was an alien concept to my parents, and this is when I was told that they cannot help me learn DJing in any way.
My career as a DJ started with me getting my visiting cards designed and printed. It was a period where I was reckless about my life but was madly in love with music. Eventually, a couple of my friends and I decided to start India’s first Hip Hop record label called DMN Desi Media Networks and a band called DNOAX. We had Djs, Rappers, Dancers from all over India. It was the first of its kind hip hop crew in India with 23 people as part of the team. In 2007-2008, we released “Theysee revolution”, a music album with the highest number of views. Once the video was published on social networking sites, we started to receive international recognition as well.
Later, when we introduced “Indus Gharana”, we were the first band to give a background score to a movie in Southern India. Through this avenue of life, my work started to get recognized again and I started to work as a rapper and artist for some of the top Telugu movies.
Performing at the TedX youth conference Hyderabad in 2018 was one of my proudest moments. I wrote a song called “I am sorry”, which is an apology for our future generations for what have we done to Mother Nature.
Besides my rap career, I started catering time for something I strongly believe in. It has been four years since I started the campaign #ShareAMeal. It all began by sharing one meal a day with someone who in need of food and eventually increased it to two meals a day. During the lockdown, I began to take home cooked food and distribute it into two meals.
Through the ups and downs of life, I understood what life is and what part I play in it. Life definitely gives you experiences at every level and we as living beings need to take it and learn from it. My family has always been helpful, they have played an important part in my growth as an artist and an individual.”
