“I left my village in Odisha to build a better life for my family. I moved to Telangana and started working at a brick kiln with my husband here at Karimnagar. We work hard every day, because we want our children to have a brighter future.
We don’t have weekly off. If there’s work, we’re on it. If not, we will have to remain hungry. We work in the blistering heat of the brick kiln, where the sun beats down on us and the hot bricks are unbearable to touch. We work in extreme temperatures, day in and day out.
It’s not easy, but we don’t have a better choice. Seeing our children smile when we come home makes all the hard work worth it. We work together, side by side, to build a better life for our family.
On this May Day, I’m proud to be a worker. I salute my fellow workers who work hard like me. We may not have much, but we have our family’s love and our own dignity. We’ll keep working hard, and our labor will build a better future for our children.”
