“I’m Prem Leela, founder of Prem Leela Creations, where we make eco-friendly jute bags and paper plates. We have recently launched our new manufacturing unit in Secunderabad with support from the Nirmaan Organisation.
Growing up as a trans woman, life was full of challenges—rejection, stigma, and uncertainty. But everything changed in 2021 when I joined a Skill Development Program by the Telangana government. I trained in jute bag manufacturing, and for the first time, I felt empowered.
Starting my own venture of jute bag manufacturering and paper plates making was a proud moment. Designing and selling eco-friendly products wasn’t just about earning a livelihood; it was about proving to myself and others that we can create opportunities where none existed. Soon, through the Telangana Indira Mahila Shakti Scheme, we’ll have a permanent stall at Shilparamam.
I now train other trans women and marginalized women, helping them build sustainable livelihoods. With support from Apollo Tyres, I’ve been able to expand this effort.
Though challenges remain, I see change. Programs like hiring trans individuals as traffic volunteers show society is becoming more inclusive. My dream is to grow my business, inspire others in my community, and prove that no matter where you begin, you can create a life of dignity and pride.”
