“I have been a GHMC worker for the last two years now. I used to work as a house help earlier but because of the Covid 19 pandemic, I had to shift my profession due to certain limitations. But that’s okay. Getting married at the age of 12 has taught me to be adaptive at a young age. Having said that, I did wish to start my own business in the future but it was my decision and I own it without any regrets.
As we clean the main roads and streets within the zone of Tankbund, we do come across a few people who talk to us harshly as they think that we are obstructing their space. Whenever this happens, I console myself that as long I am doing my work sincerely, there is no need for me to give into unwanted hatred from people.
The idea of cherishing what we have and are gifted with is what I strongly believe in. Today, I am proud to be considered a frontline warrior and I feel responsible for the wellbeing of my fellow citizens in society. Even my son is proud of my work and he doesn’t hesitate to tell to his friends that his mom is a sweeper. What else do I need in life?”
