“I remember one of the best gifts I had ever received was on my 15th birthday. For some reason, a few months before my birthday I started appreciating the habit of others wearing a wristwatch and ta da… surprise. I received my first watch on my birthday. A Titan watch, exactly the way I wanted. There on, every birthday my sister got creative and would be behind my mother and friends to execute the surprise irrespective of whereabouts. Even miles apart she would find a way to celebrate my birthday and get me something cool. One of those times, she sent me a Polaroid camera to my cousin’s house in the US when I was visiting them on work. I never expected her to keep a track of my schedule and get my friends and cousins in another country to visit me and celebrate my birthday.. she is crazy, we are crazy. This craziness in the family led to ‘Making Magic Happen’.I have always been a shy kid all through my childhood. Say if this interview was taken five years ago, I don’t think I would have been able to speak a word out haha. I never had a particular goal set for myself until my Engineering. I was always open to trying something different. After Engineering, I was volunteering for an education services organization. It was a big jump for me to work in management field. It was a tough task to talk to new people. Well, it still is. But my work as a volunteer and later as a project manager demanded me being more communicative, sometimes with large groups of people from different demographics as well. I was leading a project in the same organization and that is when the idea of an experience box seeded. My idea was to give back something meaningful and memorable to the students who had attended our programs. We took almost an year to ideate, design and narrow down on all the things we wanted to include in this memory box. It was such a fulfilling experience I must say. I was thrilled to see the output especially bringing an idea/imagination to life . It is an indescribable feeling. Speaking of memories, I received thoughtful gifts from family and friends that made me feel loved. I could see the amount of time they spent on thinking and perfectly executing them. All of them in the most unexpected ways and in unexpected situations. Just like these unexpected ways, the idea behind ‘Making Magic Happen’ had an unexpected start. I realised that we don’t need an occasion to make someone feel special or loved. We can do it more often and I feel at times like these we all need these small reminders from loved ones more often. For me gifting is an experience of bringing an idea to life. When you plan on gifting something to someone, you think about them. I remember the first-ever boxes we had sent out were during Diwali last year and one of my friends bought a box from us for his mother. That was the first time he gifted something to his mother and yes it was a surprise. Aunty felt so emotional and loved the box so much that she took it to the puja room and put kumkum on the box, just to pray for the good start of our new business. We are grateful to be able to create such heartwarming experiences and hear stories from our clients. This boosts our energies too.Until the pandemic, I never aimed to have a business of my own. Because Swathi-from-college never imagined becoming an entrepreneur. Now I am all geared up to do big with my business and the joy it brings to my clients.”
