“As a child, I used to play with stones and admire my father Carving and giving the stones a shape and that’s how my interest in jewellery making had started.
My name is Mohammed. My father was also a jeweller. My brother and son also help me with the business and we all stay together. I own a house in Hyderabad but my hometown is Srinagar, Kashmir. We moved here years back and have set up our own jewellery store.
The business in Hyderabad was going smoothly before the lockdown but during the lockdown, we were completely shut. Now even after all the protocols and restrictions have been lifted, the situation is quite the same. The frequency of customers visiting the store has decreased to a large extent and we are hardly making any profits.
We were part of many exhibitions across the country but due to this Pandemic, all got cancelled. The NRI’s used to visit our store and appreciate our work in the exhibitions but now we hardly see anyone coming. Nevertheless, I have faith that everything will resume back to normal and we will have more customers visiting the store.
Online Venture? Well, I haven’t thought about it. Nonetheless, I think shopping at the store and shopping online is completely different. Online, one might get cheated or the customer might not be happy with the product shown in a photograph of a real one. That’s why I think shopping offline at the store is more convincing and authentic. In the Forthcoming years, I along with my son will expand our business and intent to scale a standard level where our brand will be recognized.”
