“I was only 8 when I learned to climb palm trees. Since then, for the last 25 years, this has been my profession.
The extraction of the toddy happens between March and June. For the rest of the year, I work in the fields.
There’s a general perception that climbing up a tree and extracting toddy is an easy job. But that’s not true. Many lost their lives falling from the top of the toddy trees. It requires focus and strength to do this job and with years of practice, I have mastered this skill.
I do not go to any market to sell the toddy wine. All the stock will be sold off fresh within a few hours, here.
I don’t want to promote liquor but toddy certainly helps in improving health if consumed in the right manner and amount.
Toddy has been our traditional drink for ages and I feel proud to continue this ancestral profession.”
