In a demonstration of solidarity, doctors in Hyderabad gathered at Dharna Chowk to protest the brutal rape and murder of a woman doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The incident has sent shockwaves across the nation, with medical professionals from various cities joining forces to condemn the heinous crime. Holding placards and banners, the doctors in Hyderabad demanded justice for the slain doctor and called on the government to implement stricter laws to protect healthcare workers and ensure a safe working environment.
Medical students and junior doctors were particularly vocal in expressing their concerns. Rohit, a final-year Medical student from Hyderabad, stated, “This incident has deeply shaken us all. We dedicate our lives to learning how to save others, but it feels like our own safety is being overlooked. We need immediate changes to ensure all the women medical professionals can work without fear.”
Anusha, a Postgraduate medical student added, “We’re here to serve and heal, but this horrific crime has made us question our own safety. It’s unacceptable that such a tragedy can happen in a place meant for care and healing. Stronger security measures and laws are urgently needed.”
Archana, a junior doctor from a Government Medical College in Hyderabad, commented, “The fear that such a crime can happen to any one of us is terrifying. The medical professionals need better security, not just in major hospitals but in all medical institutions.”
These collective voices from both students and doctors reflect the deep concern within the medical community.
As the protests continue across India, the demands for justice and safety grow louder, urging the government to take swift and decisive action to protect those who dedicate their lives to healing others.
