“It’s been almost one and a half years since I started growing my hair. It’s actually for a cause but no one in my circle (friends and family) knows why I am doing so. I am a professional weight lifter and a photographer. When my hair grew up to 8 inches, people around me started to mock me up saying words such as “Ammayi, Teda ga, Kammalu Gajulu kuda Esko ra.” While it’s disheartening to listen to such words, I was firm with my decision to grow my hair at least up to 12 inches long.
Well, the main purpose is to donate my hair to a foundation called Hyderabad Hair Donation which collects the hair from people for a cause to help weave wigs for cancer patients who goes through chemotherapy.
What motivated me to do this? Well, there are a few reasons for it. I came across a newspaper article many years ago regarding hair donation for Cancer patients and I felt I should also contribute to the cause someday. And then I got to know that one of my friends was in starting stage of hair cancer, so that’s strengthened my motive to grow my hair and donate it to a cancer foundation. Thankfully, my friend has recovered now with the medication and I went ahead with the hair donation when it has grown up to 11 and a half inches along with my little sister who’s in grade 3.
I know that these days there’s chaos everywhere with the impact of the Covid pandemic and hair donation may not get the same priority as other aspects but I truly urge my fellow citizens to consider this as a cause and donate their hair(whoever can) at least once in life. My sister and I have decided to donate our hair for cancer patients and we hope it will bring a smile to someone’s face shortly.
A person suffering from cancer has to go through a lot and the last thing one could do to support them is by donating hair as there’s no harm in donating as one can grow back again. Yes. 12 inches of your hair can make a difference to many.”
