“Agriculture has been our ancestral profession. When I was a kid, I didn’t even think of anything else but doing farming. I remember going to the fields with my father when I was as young as 6 – not because he asked me to come, but I loved it too.
We used no chemical fertilisers or pesticides back then. Only natural manure and good rains. Today, there is uncertainty in the market demands and majority have adopted to the modern methods of the cultivation.
It was all organic before capitalism took over and everything became about making money.
Moreover, we are in crisis as the centre isn’t coming forward to procure our Rabi paddy due to certain reasons. Also, back then, farmers were given much more importance than today. We had no option though. Agriculture is what we know and this is all we can do.
Imagine if all the farmers in the country gave up and moved to other kinds of labour work! Where will you get your food from? People should think about this sometimes.”
