“My name is Dr. Atchuta Abhinav, and I’m a periodontist. Honestly, dentistry wasn’t my first plan. Like many students, I wanted to become a cardiologist. But when MBBS admissions didn’t work out, I chose dentistry in 2004. Looking back, it’s a decision I’m truly happy about.
While pursuing my BDS and MDS at Kamineni, I started to enjoy periodontics and implantology—areas that require precision and skill to work on gums and bones. Initially, I wasn’t very confident about it, but as I spent more time on the subject, I started enjoying the work. My mentors, Dr. Satyanarayana and Dr. Rajuvagu, played a huge role in shaping my journey and showing me the importance of research and innovation.
Today, I manage my time between teaching, research, and clinical practice. I’ve authored two books and published over 30 research papers in national and international journals. But teaching remains the most rewarding part of my work. Sharing my experience with aspiring dentists keeps me motivated and gives me a sense of purpose.
I also run my own clinics in Hyderabad, consult for several other clinics, and perform surgeries at many more. Dentistry is always changing, and I encourage young dentists to keep learning and adapting to new developments.
On the personal side, balancing work and life has its challenges. But I’m lucky to have a supportive family and a wife who shares the same passion for periodontics. My focus is on growing in this field, inspiring young dentists, and contributing wherever I can.”
