“I had the perfect life that any engineer from India would dream of. I was in Australia, with a high-paying job and enough money to travel and eat comfortably. I had even just purchased a luxury car, but I wasn’t content. When suddenly, I met with an accident. My car flipped thrice and was entirely damaged, but I had no injury! I got out of the car and sat on the street thinking I could have just died.
That changed my entire perspective. I realised my life seemed incomplete. There was no adventure or adrenaline rush. I took a week off and eventually resigned from my job. Everybody thought I was crazy, but I knew I couldn’t lead that life anymore. I came home with no idea of what I wanted to do next – I just knew I wanted to do something to impact lives.
What was the purpose of my life? – that was the only question on my mind! I started to think and understand what I valued the most. I thought the only thing which would motivate me to work was finding my passion. I read a lot and spent days thinking. My perspective changed and I started to value fitness and a healthy lifestyle. The idea of making the most of the life we have, which is roughly 25,000 days, moved me. I did a brief course in Australia in fitness. I was the only lean and not-so-fit guy in a room full of fitness enthusiasts. But I didn’t give up! I worked out and returned with a fresher mind and healthier self. That’s when I decided that I wanted to launch the kind of fitness and training that empowers people and enriches their lives. I launched Functional 45 (F45) in India and expanded it across the country with more than 30 branches. Meanwhile, my interest in eating healthy also grew. I started a concept cafe called Alive Cafe, offering food that comes directly from farmers and is hardly processed. I started to organise campaigns where we travelled across the world, exploring new fitness concepts and eating habits. That’s the kind of life I wanted to live – fun, but equally responsible.
In the last couple of years, I’m proud to say that I’ve taken the big step of leaving a well-paid job in another country to try and understand my calling. But the journey isn’t over. I’m still exploring – I’ve exited F45 and now, I’m keen to explore lifestyle coaching. I want to conduct workshops and make people aware of life and how we can make the best of it. I want to meet every 25-year-old and ask them, “You have 25,000 days in life. How do you want to live?” That is the question we all need to find an answer for.”
