“Right from my childhood, my family encouraged my sister and me to do something that made a difference. I was about 4 years old when l first held a tennis racket. As we grew up, my sister became an international tennis player and I played up to the national level. A few years later, there came a time I had to make a choice between continuing tennis or pursuing academics. I chose to not play tennis professionally. There was no profound reason, just a voice in my heart. It sure felt like I was going against my plan but the voice inside me was stronger. I hadn’t thought of a backup or made any other plan, yet it seemed right. I continued to pursue aeronautical engineering and by my final year, I was writing a book. It was an extension of what I believed, learnt and how my words could make a difference. I never thought I’d even come close to publishing it. But when a friend got me in touch with publishers, who loved my book, everything quickly changed. We are constantly changing as people and having that awareness about myself allowed me to find my calling. After finishing my engineering, I worked in the corporate field.
Soon I was introduced to advertising, where I explored copywriting, scripting and little bit of directing as well. Often, we are so fixated on our passion that we forget to pay attention to what the world or the people around us are trying to say. My writing has always been inspired by the idea of making a difference, that is more than who we are or what we do. With my bag full of experiences of meeting different people and exploring different fields, I began writing my next two books, which I plan to publish soon. It was never about what I did, but who am I becoming.
I always believed that we all have a purpose. Sometimes that purpose can be long-lasting; sometimes it is seasonal. Through every phase of our lives, we find a fresh purpose, which drives us, motivates us and might differ from our plans. All through my life, I’ve only chased this purpose of mine and things have worked out just fine. It’s okay to have a plan that doesn’t work out or not have a plan at all. Just have faith and follow the voice in your head, it always works for the best!”
