“I am Annam Srinivasa Rao, founder of Annam Seva Foundation. My life’s mission to serve the less fortunate was shaped by the struggles I faced growing up. Born into a humble family, I experienced hardships from a young age. There were days when we barely had enough to eat, and survival was a constant challenge. Watching my parents work tirelessly to make ends meet have made me do something for people who face similar struggles.
These early experiences motivated me to help others. I promised myself that if I ever found stability in life, I would dedicate myself to giving back to society. This dream stayed with me throughout my youth and into my adult life. Even after securing a government job with BSNL, my past always reminded me that many people needed help— people who, like I once did, struggled to survive.
After retiring, I decided to fulfill that promise. I used my retirement savings to start Annam Seva Trust in Khammam, focusing on helping orphans, the homeless, and those battling mental illness. The challenges I faced as a child shaped me into who I am today, instilling in me a commitment to serve.
One of the most significant moments for me occurred in 2024 when we reunited a 47-year-old man from West Bengal with his family after he had been missing for 12 years. The man had been found by the Khammam police five years prior, living in a distressed state and unable to recall his past due to his mental illness. At Annam Seva Trust, we provided him with the care he needed, and over time, we worked tirelessly to trace his family.
After months of effort, we located his relatives in West Bengal and facilitated the emotional reunion. Watching their happiness was a reminder of why I dedicate my life to this work. It brought back memories of my struggles and reinforced my belief in the importance of restoring hope and dignity to those in need.
On this World Food Day, I urge everyone to remember that small acts of kindness can transform lives. Let us all do our part to support those in need, because every gesture, no matter how small, makes a difference.”
