“What started with a simple thought of doing something for the environment, soon turned into the establishment of Plan A Plant. We started in 2017, after six months of research, including R&D tests. We used 100% clay to create Ganesh idols and put a few vegetable seeds in them. The idea is, once the festival is over, you can put them in pots and grow a plant. Imagine how much can be done for the environment with this small move. You can save lakes, grow your own organic vegetables and plant saplings.
Once we were sorted, we started with making 1,000 idols. We shared the idea on social media and what happened next was unexpected. We were bombarded with messages and calls the whole day. I had to switch my phone off because I wasn’t prepared for that kind of response. A couple of days later, I dealt with each order and decided to start with local deliveries only. However, the same year, we expanded with all-India delivery. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned us in his Mann Ki Baat episode the same year. Although a lot of people didn’t support the idea in the beginning, the response made them change their mind. It’s evident that many people do care about the environment and don’t mind taking a small step to make a difference. If we worship an idol for 10 days, why drown it in a lake on the last day? Let’s keep it in our homes forever with this plant Ganesha.”
