“It was when I lost my elder brother to brain cancer that I decided I wanted to be a doctor. I was just 14 years old, completely disturbed and shaken. It was a challenging situation, but we were helpless. Since then, I always wanted to support people in the challenges they faced.
Unfortunately, the financial problems at home did not allow me to pursue medicine. Instead I pursued ‘Human Behaviour & Mind’ and got into the field of Psychology.
When I started my mental health support organization ‘You are Happiness’, I faced a lot of issues because counseling and therapy were even more of taboo back then. Infact, I used to have only one appointment a week. But I did not give up- I focused on my own mind. I felt that irrespective of the challenges I was going through, I could use my mind as a tool and handle everything. It’s been 13 years so far and the journey has been satisfying, to say the least.
Ever since the lockdown has been imposed, people have gotten an opportunity to spend more time with their families. However, certain people are either getting bored, considering their home a jail or facing stress. The word lockdown itself has made many feel anxious, coupled with the fake news and misinformation circulated on social media. I suggest peope limit the amount of time they spend in consuming news that disturbs them. For the people trying to work from home different factors such as the nature of the work, situation at home, the age of their children- all matter. Discussing your concerns and expectations with your family and what role each person can play to make it better, can be helpful.
This crisis has taught us that adaptability to change and unprecedented happenings is what we must all be equipped with. What matters is our ability to respond with creative choices during the crisis. With the intensive pace of life, understanding each other, taking strategic actions and social awareness is of utmost importance.”
